A blog written by anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan and posted on www.MichaelMoore.com criticizes Charlotte-Mecklenburg police for allowing counterprotesters to "try to intimidate us" during her anti-war rally Tuesday.
But in a memo to top police administrators, one captain said officers had no issues during the two-hour event at Bryant Park and expressed surprise at the complaints.
In her blog, Sheehan said that there was a "police presence that seemed to be there to foster violence."

She noted that the police, citing freedom of speech, refused to separate her group and its opponents, a national group called the Gathering of Eagles.
"But the Eagles' freedom of speech has included physical threats against me and actual physical force against kids and women. When the Charlotte police were told this, they said that they couldn't keep them apart from our group until the Eagles actually did something."
Sheehan, one of the best-known opponents of the war in Iraq, stayed in her car during the rally that drew about 125 people.
Instead of addressing the crowd -- some of her supporters said there was concern about her safety -- Sheehan moved to Talley's Green Grocery in Dilworth.
In a police memo dated July 19, Capt. Doug Gallant, who reviewed and evaluated the event in Bryant Park, said he was "quite frankly surprised there have been complaints."
The police memo says the 14 officers on hand noticed no displays that violated N.C. law. One protester began using profanity, the memo says, and an officer asked the person to stop cursing.
The memo also says that police didn't have to bring in physical barriers, such as bike racks, to keep the groups away from each other. At one point, Sheehan's security adviser said she had concerns about the Gathering of Eagles, and officers asked the group to move back, creating a buffer of at least 25 feet.
Most people who attended the event said they didn't feel threatened or intimidated. But Sheehan supporters fault police for allowing their message to be drowned out by counterprotesters.
"Early on, I was saying this is the beauty of our democracy, how these groups can be there at the same time and be civil," said Jibril Hough, a local anti-war activist. "But in the end, I was very disappointed."
An organizer for the counterprotesters said there was never any threat of violence.
"We are loud and we are proud and we will counterprotest and exercise our First Amendment rights at the top of our lungs," said George Samek, recruiter for the Gathering of Eagles.
Samek said he talked with leaders from the other side before the protests started.
"I said we were very verbal and not to expect any leniency, but I told them, `You have nothing to fear from us. We'll be screaming at you and calling you names ... but we had amputees with us, we had children with us, we didn't want any violence.' "

AAR: Charlotte, NC Sheehan Rally

“I was never so proud to be an Eagle as I was today, when we literally intimidated the moonbats to the extent that Cindy Sheehan drove by the demonstration site, saw what was happening, and DROVE AWAY!

It was awesome. George Samek, advance man extraordinaire, had Charlotte just waiting for us. We got several people just because they heard on the radio while driving home that Cindy was going to get a confrontation from a bunch of righteous Eagles! That happened because ol’ Rubber Ducky Samek had contacted all the media in Charlotte and told them we were coming to town.

I can’t praise George enough for what he did to make this a spectacular event. Whereas I expected to see maybe 40-50 Eagles at Bryant Park, we had probably 150-200. We were as many as the moonbats!

Any Eagles in the Lynchburg area of Virginia? Cindy will be coming into town soon!

Congratulations and thanks to all the hard-core Eagles who turned out today! Your country owes you!

Sheehan Cowers to GOE!

Hello All:

The best news is that we in GOE countered a protest in Charlotte, NC where Cindy Sheehan was supposed to speak. She arrived to find us on the high ground, with numbers equal to the opposition. We had a sea of American flags, bull horns and twice the enthusiasm. Cindy drove up and did not get out of the car; she simply drove away. The press filmed us for a change. The Vets for Freedom got good press in DC today. They have endorsed our rally in DC on 15 September. So has Move America Forward and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. We are turning up the heat and will continue to do so. The war is not lost. You know it and I know it and soon we will make Congress know it. Keep checking the website www.gatheringofeagles.org for updates on the 15 September counter protest . This is our chance to BUY THE TROOPS SOME TIME TO WIN.

We needed support in March and we need it again in September. Let all our troops know we are silent no more and we will not allow our guys to be treated with disrespect by anybody. Wake the kids and phone the neighbors, patriotic Americans are coming to take back the streets.

Sheehan stages a Desecration of Arlington National Cemetary

The D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com invites all Freepers and lurkers in good standing to join us Monday morning, July 23rd, at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery to stand up to Cindy Sheehan and her anti-American comrades as they attempt to desecrate Arlington with a so-called antiwar protest.

Sheehan has called the terrorists in Iraq ‘freedom fighters’ and has
traveled the world supporting our enemies. With the surge in Iraq
succeeding, Sheehan has come out of retirement to aid her ‘freedom
fighters’ by urging the impeachment of the two men who have kept the terrorists at bay for almost six years: President Bush and Vice
President Cheney.

When: 9:30 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2007.

Where: The sidewalk near the Metro entrance on Memorial Drive,
Arlington National Cemetery.

Bring: Flags and signs bearing messages supporting our troops, their
