SOME THINGS IN LIFE YOU NEVER FORGET
A good buddy of mine (Rick Moore) from Vietnam has passed away. He was a great CAP Marine.
GOD
BLESS HIM
On July 17, 1970, I was on a patrol with four other
Marines, when we were pinned down and surrounded in a jungle area. We had to fight for hours to save our lives. Rick Moore
led CAP 2-9-1 through their own combat to save us.
Rick was a
true Marine hero. He was always quick to praise other Marines.
Rick's
father proudly served in the Marines during World War 2.
After being separated for nearly 40 years, Rick Moore and I reconnected
over the internet. Over phone calls and emails, we discussed every detail about what happened on July 17, 1970.
With the patrol, I was on with four other Marines, being pinned down and surrounded for about three hours; it was an extremely
welcome sight to see Rick's reactionary team rescue us. Both our small teams of CAP Marines were pinned down and
had to fight for our lives. That day was physically exhausting and mentally draining, because even after our
teams left each other's sides, that day, we still had to fight some more heavy combat. Laughing about it forty years
later, it was a big joke for both of us to say to each other, "Never give up. Just don't give up!"
Laughing could only go so far. Both Rick and I
ended up suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), due to that one day and the hundreds of other days serving
under combat conditions living in our different peasant-farming villages.
It became another joke, when a slight Déjà vu experience surfaced. Many years
after returning home from Vietnam, Jack hired a New Jersey law firm to represent him in court case. Jack's own law
firm was so bad that it reminded him of flashbacks to that July 17, 1970 combat in Vietnam, when he was pinned down and
surrounded for hours. Rick, who was brought up in New Jersey, and who once had uncles, who were New Jersey judges,
repeatedly reassured Jack that the corrupt group of lawyers, he was dealing with, was not the whole New Jersey legal
system. "Never give up. Just don't give up!" Rick would repeatedly tell Jack. "I
know my uncles. They were great judges in New Jersey." he would insist. "It's just a few corrupt
lawyers."
SOME THINGS IN LIFE YOU NEVER FORGET
When it comes to New Jersey's legal system, Jack
still remembers the words that his buddy, who helped save his life in Vietnam, would tell him repeatedly. "Don't
give up. There are only a few corrupt lawyers in New Jersey. I know my uncles were great New Jersey judges."
Marine Rick Moore has passed and is standing with his Marine father guarding the gates of heaven.
Jack Cunningham is still standing with his buddy Rick's,
and his words "Just don't give up." However, it is up to the State of New Jersey and it's
legal system to prove, if the system is as good as when Rick's uncles were judges.
Jack Cunningham, his family,
his friends, his supporters and the nation waits...
